CSA Food Bank

About the CSA Food Bank

In an effort to combat hunger and poverty on campus and in the greater Guelph community, the CSA Food Bank provides Graduate and Undergraduate members of the University community access to emergency food, anti-poverty resources, and referrals to other food security and anti-poverty groups.

This volunteer driven service, started and funded by students, began in the fall of 2004. Since then we have seen the scope of our work increase dramatically as the real and often hidden issues of hunger and impoverishment become more evident. We have helped hundreds of people in need, and held a series of events that focused on raising awareness about and resistance to poverty and hunger in our communities. With more than 1200 students accessing emergency food services in the Guelph community, the need for the CSA Food Bank could not be greater

In addition to food, the CSA Food Bank also offers a Special Diet Fund and Compassionate Fund. The Special Diet Fund is for students with dietary needs that we cannot meet with the items we carry. This fund provides funds ranging between $10-$20 every two weeks, to supplement the food that we can provide. The Compassionate Fund is accessible once a year, and is $50 or more, to help with costs such as rent. We can also help connect people to community resources that can help them meet those needs.

The Stuff Swap

The Stuff Swap is on the second floor of the Food Bank, and is open all hours that the Food Bank is open. This is a joint venture with the Sustainability Office and Guelph Students for Environmental Change (GSEC).

It runs on a "take what you want, leave what you don't" basis. You do not need to donate an item to be able to take an item and vice versa.

Items that we have include:
-clothing
-bedding
-shoes
-dishes
-binders
-small electronics

For large furniture items, there is a different storage location. Please contact Sustainability at x58129 in regards to larger items.

Bags Bags Bags!

In an effort to go more green this year.  The CSA Food Bank is encouraging you to bring your own bags (or boxes, or duffels, or anything you please).  We do have some varying sizes in boxes free to take but we will no longer be supplying plastic bags.
